The inspiration to have started making jewelry came through the grieving process of a friend lost to cancer. In wanting to celebrate the life of this friend who brought so much to her community through her welcoming personality and unique knack for telling stories of the antiques and awe-inspiring selection of bobbles in her store Eclectic Appeal. Her zest for the simple pleasures of life and loving heart will never be forgotten. Myra-Catie found pleasure in fixing up previously-loved jewelry in her friend's old shop space. She soon starting dabbling with her own line of adornments drawing inspiration from tarot, magick, archetypes and more in her brand Rav'n.
I learned so much from crafting and curating a brick-and-mortar location for The Quirky Bird. The lessons of DIY-ing an old building into a welcoming retail space were inspired by a work of the heart and came to fruition through hours of painstaking work. Saying good-bye to the space I had grown to love and transitioning to more of an online presence took more moxie and a vision for what the future of The Quirky Bird needed to be. It afforded more time and emotional energy to continue creating and spending it in ways that were more sustainable, meaningful and fun. I got to see the joy and wonder of the many customers and friends who visited my little shop and I will never forget their kindness and support.
